Why an FNP Residency Program

The Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program concept is supported by the Bureau of Primary Care to ease the transition and assure the success of newly graduated Nurse Practitioners into their role as primary care providers.

The program supports the mission of the health centers to provide excellent, comprehensive, primary health care, disease prevention, and health education for people who are uninsured and underinsured in a culturally competent environment.  New Nurse Practitioners become more confident and skilled and can contribute more effectively if given a year of designed support, including mentors with time and expertise to teach, didactic content that is selected to build on existing skills, and a range of experiences to reach the complex needs of underserved populations across all life cycles.

SRCHC is also home to a family practice medicine residency which graduates 12 family practice MDs per year through UCSF.
